Founded in 1947 by friends Bob Frostenson and Harry Durall after watching Olympic Team tryouts in nearby Sun Valley, Soldier Mountain began with $10,000, a handmade lodge, and two rope tows. The first chairlift was added in 1971, followed by a second in 1974. Actor Bruce Willis purchased the resort in the late 1990s and later donated it to a nonprofit in 2012.
